In 2019, a Chinese singer Tai Yi (太一,tài yī) released a song called “Grow Up with High Pressure” (负重一万斤长大, fù zhòng yī wàn jīn zhǎng dà). This song has very powerful lyrics.
“Grow Up with High Pressure” is based on the Korean movie Hope (2013).
“Hope” is based on a true story, about a case from 2008. An 8-year-old girl was kidnapped, raped, and beaten by a drunk, 57-year-old man.
Fortunately, the young girl was saved and survived. However, she endured multiple surgeries. The event left her not only with PTSD, but she also had to wear a colostomy bag to replace her organs.
The sex offender received only a 12-year jail term. With a history of 17 crimes prior to this and 3 years prison for rape, he was released from the prison in December 2020.
The lyrics of Tai Yi’s song “Grow Up with High Pressure” reveal the cruel story from both the first and third perspective.
“If you pity me, then why do you catch me and say forgive the devil. I bear the enormous pain, timidity and loneliness, why don’t you ask me about it? ”
“Even several years later, people keep talking about her. Never thought that the biggest challenge is to return to old life. ”
“I really doubt, perhaps the world does not welcome me anymore.”
The song unmasks our cruel reality. Evil is not punished. Meanwhile, innocents endure all the pain and blame for others’ harm.
Music and movies raise our awareness of these horrible events. We learn more about news outside our country through them.
Hopefully, we can reflect on the social issues and mistakes after watching.
This is an edited video with clips from the film “Hope” (2013) and a stage performance completed by TNT, a Chinese boy band.
Every scene and every second are heartbreaking and painful to watch.
This powerful choreography from Liu Jun, a Chinese dancer, has also left a deep impression on people.
Each word of the lyrics become harsher and stronger with his movements.
Both the song and the movie highlight one thing: Our society needs to change. Our laws worldwide must change to protect the innocents.
While listening to the song, I encourage you to rethink society.
The innocent people who experienced terrible events should be surrounded by warmth and love from their communities.
Let’s help to take the great pressure off them.
Let's purify this world together.
